The Black Women’s Forum held an intimate and engaging roundtable discussion this past Saturday which honored Black mothers who have lost their children to police violence. The forum was held during a luncheon at the Westin Hotel in Los Angeles.

Sickle Cell Disease Foundation raises funds for Camp Crescent Moon
More than 500 people attended the fifth annual Sickle Cell Disease Foundation of California Walk-a-Thon this past Saturday at Los Angeles Southwest College. The purpose of the event was to raise $50,000 to send children affected by sickle-cell disease to Camp Crescent Moon, which is a summer camp that meets the children’s needs.
Byron Scott provides basketball training to children at the Boys and Girls Club
More than 50 children from the Child Alliance and Drew Child Development programs (which provide services for children in the child welfare system) were in for a treat this past Saturday at the Boys and Girls Club in Harbor City. Los Angeles Lakers legend and head coach Byron Scott hosted a clinic that taught the elementary and middle school children the basic fundamentals of basketball. But more importantly, the event was used to promote education.

Los Angeles Police Department members and Los Angeles County Probation officers spoke to a group of 50 middle and high school boys at the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., Western Region convention in Long Beach. All of the officers are members of the fraternity, and the topic on hand was how to interact with law enforcement officers.
