Let toys be toys: The case for gender-neutral marketing

Remember when Target announced it was phasing out gender-based signs in some departments?

Despite some criticism, the big box retailer has been quick to act on its pledge.

Stores across the country have removed references to “boys” and “girls” in toy, home and entertainment aisles and traded in pink and blue shelves for a neutral, wood-grain look. Instead, toys are sorted by categories — dolls, action figures, building sets, etc. — while books and movies are sorted by genre and bedding is just… bedding. (For now, Target’s website is a different matter.)

Columbia student accused of rape sues over accuser’s performance art

A Columbia University student who was accused of rape is suing the New York City school for allowing his accuser to publicly brand him a “serial rapist” According to the lawsuit, Paul Nungesser was cleared of responsibility in Emma Sulkowicz’s 2013 rape claim, as well as others that came to light after Sulkowicz went public with her allegations in various media interviews.

Secrets abound in new ‘James Bond’ trailer

James Bond’s latest mission has been revealed in the first trailer for “SPECTRE” which was released Friday.
Daniel Craig reprises his role of everyone’s favorite spy in the 24th Bond film, scheduled for release November 6. Christoph Waltz, Léa Seydoux, Monica Bellucci, David Bautista and Andrew Scott also star in director Sam Mendes’ second Bond film.

Angelina Jolie’s message to kids at Nickelodeon show: ‘Different is good’

Angelina Jolie took the stage Saturday at Nickelodeon’s 28th Annual Kids’ Choice Awards and delivered a message of hope to anyone who’s ever felt out of place.
In her first public appearance since revealing that she underwent a second preventative surgery to lower her risk of cancer, Jolie attended the show with her children, Shiloh and Zahara.
