Mattel has a new Serena Williams Barbie doll that was released on Oct. 9.
The Compton-born tennis star is the latest to be paid tribute by the El Segundo-based toy giant’s Barbie Signature Role Models series.
A blurb on a company web page says the new doll “pays tribute to an athlete who has truly earned her status as one of the greatest players in her sport.”
“Tennis superstar Serena Williams has had an incredible 30-year career, racking up countless titles, awards, and accolades, inspiring future generations to break down boundaries and achieve greatness,” the blurb reads.
“Dressed in her title match look from her lucky seventh major singles victory, complete with a racket, ball and lots of signature accessories, this legend is ready to serve up another classic Serena Slam.”
The Serena Slam refers to Williams’ twice holding all four Grand Slam singles titles – the Australian and French Opens, Wimbledon and the U.S. Open – consecutively, although not in the same calendar year. Williams has won 23 Grand Slam singles titles, 14 doubles majors with sister Venus, and four Olympic gold medals. She was the world No.1-ranked player for more than 300 weeks. The doll retails for $45 and is available for pre-order.
