The Los Angeles Chargers are 3-0 for the first time in 23 years after ripping off three divisional wins and putting them in the early driving seat of the AFC West.
“I don’t think I have the vocabulary to really express how great I feel with this win,” Head coach Jim Harbaugh said. “Just the admiration for our team, our players, our coaches.
“Three wins … it’s taken everybody in these games. Just gritty. Spectacular is probably the word I’d use. Just a wonderful, wonderful feeling of victory,” Harbaugh added. “Just finding a way … a tremendous performance by so many.”
This game against the Broncos showcased the mentality of this team as they watched the Broncos rally from a ten-point deficit, scoring 17 unanswered points and trailing by 7 points late into the fourth quarter. The team understood what needed to happen for them to win, and it started with everybody doing their job. Quarterback Justin Herbert took the Chargers on a 5-minute game-tying drive that ended with a vintage Keenan Allen touchdown to lock the score at 20. The defense set up and made the necessary stops to give their offense one last chance to seal the deal, and they did just that.
“We knew we had one job and that was to take the ball and go score. That’s exactly what we did,” Herbert said of the final drive.
Herbert and the offense moved into Denver territory with only seconds left to set up Cameron Dicker’s walk-off, 43-yard field goal.
Herbert completed eight of his final nine pass attempts for 93 yards in their last two possessions. It was his 13th career fourth-quarter comeback and 17th career game-winning drive.
“Oh my gosh, bro. The dude is unbelievable,” Trey Pipkins III said. “I have zero words. What can I say?”
“He was getting hit, making throws. He led us the entire time,” Pipkins added. “If that’s not MVP, I don’t know what is.”
