As Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes ( actually Teddy Pendergrass doing the lead singing) once sang, “Wake Up, Everybody! No more sleeping in bed ! No more backward thinking, time for thinking ahead !!”
The U.S. States of America is now engaged in a full fledged coup d’etat attempt, and most of us are just blissfully unaware of it, or just concentrating on finding some fresh eggs for sale at the grocery store, or other such mundane actions. For the first time since the U.S. Civil War, there is an actual attempt going on daily to take over the American government by the chief executive of the country and his henchmen (particularly the unelected, unauthorized hitman Elon Musk).
Late last week, and especially this Monday, the U.S. courts finally started to attempt to staunch this brazen attempt, telling Musk’s DOGE youth computer mobsters( one of whom has previously been fired from a computer tech job in which he stole and sold computer records) that they were operating illegally and had to immediately stop seizing the personnel data of millions of Americans forthwith. But they have not stopped—in fact, there has not even a pause. Under Trump’s orders, DOGE zealots and other Trump officials are continuing to raid the private information and internal personnel file data of millions of Americans, while blocking the legitimate access to such data by the people hired to maintain it. As a result, Trump’s people have been trying to fire or scare into retirement millions of federal officials.
The POTUS and his people have apparently decided that they do not have to obey any laws except the ones they like and that profit themselves. Sometime this week, there will surely be a standoff between federal police and security forces—some one is going to be shot and/or arrested, whether they claim to work for the POTUS or for some branch of the federal bureaucracy.
The U.S. is a republican democracy based on the corresponding integration of three equal branches of government. It is a democracy. Mr. Trump’s cabal is interested in establishing a governmental autocracy, with only presidential and executive authority in charge. The inevitable crash and clash has already begun, with the judiciary as the people’s champion, and the clash is not and will not be pretty, clean or without thousands, even millions, of casualties.
The country has just elected a POTUS who is a convicted criminal still under indictment for more crimes and who has no respect for American law (as a matter of fact, as some noticed, he never did put his hand on the Bible when being sworn into office a few weeks ago) as his authority. Like a drunk man crashing into marble and stone walls at every step and using a howitzer on them each time, Mr. Trump has thrown down the gauntlet—It’s either me ruling or the rule of law ! And he has clearly decided that he is the law. Everybody else must bend to his will or be broken and vanquished.
That is not the way American law and democracy work, but like any spoiled child, once the parent bends to the child’s will once, there is the complete abandonment by the child of the rules of comportment. Mr. Trump is the ultimate spoiled child grown up astray.
American democracy establishes that there are three co-equal branches of government and authority in the country. Movies, t-v and video games, however, have very often hawked the message that there can be only one ultimate authority, and Mr. Trump has decided that is himself. Those who don’t like it, let’s rumble.
The fire next time may already be here. It is the fire THIS time, whether we’re ready or not—and while we worry about the internal flames started by the MAGA crowd, our many external enemies and rivals will hardly merely lay and watch. Real trouble will surely be our future now for quite a time, it is easy to predict.
On a visit to the U.S. before Trump’s first term, the Pope mentioned that in Trump we could very well be dealing with an Anti-Christ figure. Well, Behold, the Anti-Christ! SugarMama!
