Ryan Garner, a 17-year-old pilot, is the youngest and first African-American pilot in North Carolina. Garner received his private pilot’s license at Concord’s Goose Creek Airport. He was honored earlier this month by the city’s mayor.
Garner is a senior studying aerospace engineering and aviation at West Cabarrus High School.
“I have always loved it [aviation] since I was a kid…It’s a little adrenaline rush coming into the plane…I want to take it to the majors and go to the airlines.”
