The Antelope Valley is home to many wonderful resources for residents including the outdoors. One of the many outdoor resources that are available is the Placerita Canyon Nature Center.

The Placerita Canyon Nature Center is located at 19152 Placerita Canyon Rd. in Newhall . On May 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the nature center is hosting an open house. The open house will have storytime, crafts and games, panning for “fool’s gold”, animal presentations, caricatures by Jill, displays by local nature clubs & organizations, gift shop, fender guitar raffle, native plant sale and food trucks. “A Year in the Woods” by Torbjorn Ekelund will be the story and theme for the day.

The Placerita Canyon Nature Center is open Tuesday through Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Placerita is a canyon that has cool, shaded oak groves, a willow and sycamore-lined seasonal stream and numerous plant and animal communities. Landmarks amongst the Placerita Canyon Nature Center include the “Oak of the Golden Dream” and the “Walker Cabin.”
