The City of Palmdale has announced the development of our community’s first Park and Recreation Master Plan. The residents of Palmdale are invited to attend our first community-wide meeting at 11 a.m. on April 15 at the Palmdale Playhouse, 38334 10th St. East.

With public input, this master plan will guide the City’s strategic vision for transforming our Parks and Recreation facilities.

The Master Plan process includes reviewing and analyzing the entire parks and recreation system, from parks and facilities to programs and operations. The goal is to create a roadmap for the future. The plan will prioritize future park projects and identify sustainable methods to meet the needs of our City’s growth and development.

The plan is developed with an eye toward Palmdale’s existing goals, as laid out in the newly adopted 2045 General Plan. The General Plan delivers a commitment to diversity and inclusion, a focus on creating a safe and welcoming community, and improved access to public parks and recreation opportunities.

Once completed, the Park and Recreation Master Plan will serve as a blueprint for developing goals, policies, and guidelines.

The plan will also identify ways to incorporate an understanding of our recreation needs and help our community reach its goals. We have many opportunities to build and improve our future; the key objective is to invite residents to participate in these opportunities to voice their ideas.

Additional opportunities to provide input and feedback will include an interactive website, future in-person and virtual community meetings, and surveys. Project consultant, BerryDunn, will lead various public engagement opportunities, which are critical to the planning process.

All community feedback will help develop a long-range vision for the department and impact future funding, staffing, and capital improvements. Public participation is critical to ensuring that the city’s service meets the needs of all residents today while promoting a healthy, sustainable, and equitable park system for the future.
