Authorities sought public help this week to find a hit-and-run motorist involved in the death of a pedestrian in Palmdale.

The crash was reported about 2:15 a.m. Dec. 12 on 25th Street East south of Centerpointe Drive, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Daniel Ricozapata, 26, died at the scene, the Los Angeles County coroner’s office reported. His city of residence was not known.

According to the sheriff’s department, the vehicle involved in the death was possibly a black 2017-2018 Mazda 3. No description was available of the motorist, who did not stop.

“The suspect was believed to be driving southbound on 25th Street East toward Joshua Hills Road prior to the incident, and possibly continued toward Pearblossom Highway,” a sheriff’s statement said.

“The hit-and-run vehicle would have sustained damage to the front passenger side, the front bumper, with a large portion of the lower bumper missing and the passenger side mirror is missing,” the statement said.

Anyone who witnessed the crash, or who may have security images of the crash or the vehicle, was urged to call detectives at the sheriff’s Palmdale Station at (661) 272-2423. Tipsters may also call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS, or use the website lacrimestoppers.org.
