Metro has activated traffic enforcement cameras along its future Crenshaw/LAX rail line to deter motorists from disobeying traffic signals along Crenshaw Boulevard.

The cameras are located at Crenshaw rail crossings at 48th Street, 52nd Street, 54th Street, 57th Street, 59th Street and Slauson Avenue. The goal is to deter motorists from making illegal left turns, which could potentially cause a train/vehicle collision once the Crenshaw/LAX line opens.

If an illegal turn is made before Nov. 1, motorists will receive a warning letter notifying them that their vehicle was photographed violating the left-turn signal. After Nov. 1, motorists will receive $100 citations.

Photo enforcement programs have already been implemented along Metro A (Blue) Line, L (Gold) Line, G (Orange) Line, and E (Expo) Line.

The 8.5-mile Crenshaw/LAX Transit Project will include eight stations: Expo/Crenshaw, Martin Luther King Jr., Leimert Park, Hyde Park, Fairview Heights, Downtown Inglewood, Westchester/Veterans and Aviation/Century.

Construction began in 2014. Metro expects the line to open later this year.
