The Palmdale City Library, 700 E. Palmdale Blvd., will celebrate International Talk Like a Pirate Day on Wednesday, Sept. 15 from 4 to 6 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

Events planned for the day include a “treasure hunt” for clues for a chance to win a pirate ship puzzle, and demonstrations of Mango Languages, the Library’s online language learning program.

Mango features over 70 languages, including pirate, and includes more than 20 ESL specialty courses and is available for free with a Palmdale City Library card using the link on the Library’s website or the Mango Languages app. Free pirate goody bags will be given away while supplies last.

“Ahoy, maties! This is a great opportunity to practice your pirate lingo or learn how to talk like a pirate using our free Mango language learning program,” said Assistant Library Director Jamielee Beck. “We hope to see all you scallywags, buccaneers, and landlubbers for an afternoon of swashbuckling fun!”

The Palmdale City Library is open seven days a week. Hours of operation are Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m.

For more information, call the Palmdale City Library at (661) 267-5600, TDD 267-5167, or visit www.cityofpalmdale.org/library.
