Actor Ving Rhames says cops held him at gunpoint in his own home

Actor Ving Rhames, best known for his appearances in the “Mission Impossible” series of movies, has reported that cops entered his home and held him at gunpoint in July 2016. The stand down only occurred after one of the offices recognized the storied actor from their sons playing basketball together. According to numerous news sources, Rhames revealed his ordeal during an interview with Clay Cane on his Sirius/XM radio show. The actor said a neighbor reportedly called the police and said a large Black man had broken into the house across the street. When cops arrived and knocked on Rhames’ door, he opened it to more than one officer pointing their weapons at him. This happened in Santa Monica and Santa Monica PD has confirmed the incident. “I get up, I open the door and there’s a red dot pointed at my face from a 9-millimeter [gun], and they say, ‘Put up your hands.’ Literally,” he told Cane. There were three officers, a police dog and the captain of police. The latter eventually recognized Rhames and asked the men to stand down. They then explained they were responding to a 911 call about a potential burglary. When Rhames and the police captain went across the street to confront the neighbor that had called 911, she allegedly denied that she called police. Rhames said it shook him, as he has a teenage son. He said it scared him to think that what if it had been his son who answered the door and had the video game remote in his hands and it was mistook for a gun.
