UNCF Walk for Education held in Leimert Park

On Saturday, the 34th annual United Negro College Fund Walk for Education was held in historic Leimert Park.

The event kicked off with a special performance by the youth of the Fernando Pullam Community Arts Center and the KJLH family and emcee Adai Lamar.

The event was made possible in part by sponsors SoCal Gas, Superior Grocers, Xerox, and the UNCF Los Angeles Inter-Alumni Council.

The top corporate teams were City National Bank and SoCal Gas, and the top community teams, were the Beverly Hills Links and Alpha Kappa Alpha (AGO Chapter), who led the charge this year.

The UNCF gave a special thanks to the biggest individual fundraiser, Trisha Jones-Brooks, who pulled out all the stops to raise more than $800 for the cause.

In addition, many elected officials came out and showed their support including Assemblyman Reggie Jones-Sawyer, Assemblyman Chris Holden on behalf of the California Legislative Black Caucus, State Sen. Steve Bradford, who pledged $1,000 on the spot and encouraged his colleagues to join him, and Brent Robinson on behalf of U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris.
