With its skill at creating innovative and modern productions of great works of literature, New York’s “classical trained, modernly hip” Aquila Theatre brings new life to Ray Bradbury’s visionary parable of a society gone awry, “Fahrenheit 451,” to the Lancaster Performing Arts Center tonight at 8 p.m.

One of the most revered novels of the 20th century, “Fahrenheit 451” is Ray Bradbury’s dystopian tale of a bleak future where literature and knowledge are on the edge of extinction. Considered a work of science fiction when first published, “Fahrenheit 451” has been debated for decades—issues of censorship, restrictions of freedom and the effects of technology on society and literature, and the means by which knowledge is gained. These continue to be very real concerns today. Bradbury himself indicated that his intention was to draw attention to the dangers of future technology.

Written in 1953, “Fahrenheit 451” has been reprinted dozens of times since its initial publication and has achieved the rare distinction of being both a literary classic and a perennial bestseller. It was adapted for the stage by Ray Bradbury and in 1966, “Fahrenheit 451” was directed by Francois Truffaut for the screen.

The New Yorker describes Aquila’s productions as, “The classics made relevant with superb acting and clever staging” while The New York Times exclaims, “The excellent Aquila Theatre, an extraordinarily inventive and disciplined outfit.”

Experience the innovative take on a powerful play by the British-American touring troupe, Aquila Theatre tonight at 8 p.m. Seats are available at $12 for youth, $19 and $29 for adults.
