If you are an architect at heart who loves design and enjoys working with sweets, then the Santa Clarita Public Library’s first Gingerbread House Contest is for you.

All you have to do is pre-register for the free contest, create your ultimate gingerbread house, and deliver your creation to the Valencia Library on Friday, Dec. 6, from 4-7 p.m.

Pre-registration is required and must be completed and returned to any Santa Clarita Public Library by mail, email or hand delivered by Wednesday,   Dec. 4.

The contest is free and open to all ages in five categories—kids ages 10 and under, teens ages 11-17, adult, family or group, and professional. All entries must be made of edible materials, including, gingerbread, icing, unwrapped candy, cookies, crackers, cereals, pasta, lollipops with paper or plastic sticks, and any other food items. Styrofoam and other support materials are not permitted.

The gingerbread houses will be on display for public viewing and voting on Dec. 7 and 8.  Each entry will be judged on imagination, construction, uniformity in baking, and overall design. First through third place winners, and a People’s Choice in each category, will be announced at the Valencia Library and at the Literary Arts Festival at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7. Winners will receive award ribbons and do not need to be present to win. The People’s Choice award in each category will be given for the entry with the most votes garnered throughout the weekend.

All participants must pick up their gingerbread house entry on Monday, Dec. 9, from 4-7 p.m. Any unclaimed entries will be discarded.
