‘Ender’s Game’ takes down ‘Bad Grandpa’

“Ender’s Game”

“Ender’s Game” was the top draw among movies in theaters in its first weekend of release, according to estimates furnished by Hollywood.com Box Office.

The movie, based on the book by Orson Scott Card, brought in an estimated $27,500,000, overtaking the previous week’s top attraction, “Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa,” which is projected to bring in $20,500,000 for the weekend and $62,058,000 since its release.

Third-ranked “Free Birds” brought in a projected $16,200,000 in its first weekend of release, while “Last Vegas,” also making its debut, was fourth, with revenues estimated at $16,025,000.

Erstwhile first place finisher “Gravity,” is projected to be fifth in revenues for the weekend, with a take estimated at $13,130,000.

Rounding out the estimated top ten are “Captain Phillips” ($8,500,000.), “12 Years a Slave” ($4,600,000.), “Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2” ($4,200,000.), “Carrie” ($3,400,000.) and “The Counselor” ($3,250,000).
