Sheriff’s homicide detectives are continuing their investigation into the shooting death of a man in Lancaster.
Detectives were called to the 44000 block of Gingham Boulevard shortly after 11 p.m. Aug. 22, said Deputy Tony Moore of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau.

Help for homeless vets
Rep. Steve Knight (CA-25) extended praise recently to the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) for its announcement that they have provided federal funds to several local organizations working to help homeless and at-risk veterans and their families.
PWD mulls rate increase
The Palmdale Water District (PWD) is considering a possible rate increase of up to 5.5 percent to customer’s monthly service bill. The proposed increase would equal about $2.64 per month per residential household.
Walk of Remembrance
The city of Santa Clarita is inviting residents to attend the Walk of Remembrance beginning at 6:45 p.m. Sept. 7 to promote safe driving and to show support for families who have lost loved ones in traffic-related incidents. The event will take place at the Youth Grove at Central Park, 27150 Bouquet Canyon Road.

Perhaps one of the most controversial items on the November ballot for California voters is Proposition 53. It has both proponents and opponents, with spending on both sides headed toward more than $5 million.

No-contest plea in ‘drive-by’
One of two young men charged with the attempted murder of a teenage girl in a car-to-car shooting in Palmdale entered a no contest plea this week and was immediately sentenced to 15 years to life in prison.
