The County Health Officer this week announced the extension of a cold weather alert for the Antelope Valley, Santa Clarita and Mount Wilson after the National Weather Service forecast low temperatures through Friday.
Wind chill temperatures are expected to dip below 32 degrees Fahrenheit.

The city of Palmdale continues its “Season of Service” program with a “Beds, Paths & Beyond” community garden project on Saturday, Feb. 22 from 8:30 a.m. to noon at the City’s Yucca Neighborhood House, located at East Ave. Q-3 in Palmdale.

At a recent city council meeting, the Santa Clarita City Council approved three grant awards designed to benefit Santa Clarita’s Community Services and Arts programs. The approved awards included monies up to $72,000 for community services grants, $45,000 for arts grants and a separate art grant of up to $3,000 awarded to the Canyon Theatre Guild.

Palmdale’s Recreation and Culture department is offering a Lifeguard Academy that will begin Friday, Feb. 21 at Marie Kerr Pool, located at 2723 Rancho Vista Blvd.

A Palmdale man was arrested January 16 after sheriff’s detectives conducting a probation search of his home found ingredients for making methamphetamine and bombs, a sergeant said.

Current and prospective families are invited to visit The Guidance Charter School (GCS), 1125 East Palmdale Boulevard, during National School Choice Week. The Open House which will be held January 27-31 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. will serve continental breakfast on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 8:15 to 10:15 a.m. Students will also participate in poster and essay contests about why they love GCS, write appreciation letters to their parents and dance in morning Zumba exercise classes.
