A serious problem, however, arises when individuals cannot separate themselves from an inanimate object because they believe it will occupy a vital place in their lives. Experts contend this irrational belief may give rise to hoarding.
Rosamond woman arrested in mother’s death
A Rosamond woman has been taken into custody in connection with the July 17 death of her 81-year-old mother. Police said the deceased woman suffered from severe neglect.
Shelly Ann Freeman, 46, was arrested on suspicion of murder and felony elder abuse, according to Ray Pruitt, spokesman for the Kern County Sheriff’s Office. Freeman is being held without bond.
Anti-bullying workshop to kick off Saturday
The city of Palmdale will present the first of three anti-bullying workshops Saturday called “Take a Stand Against Bullying.” The two-hour workshop, which begins at 9 a.m., will take place in partnership with Best Start and Girl Scouts Gold Award candidate Jo Barrera.

Nurses put forth demands as local hospitals change hands
A new team may soon operate both the St. Francis and St. Vincent medical centers in Lynwood and downtown Los Angeles, respectively. A change in ownership depends on whether California Attorney Gen. Kamala Harris gives the go ahead in the next few months—and if the new owners abide by a list of demands submitted by the California Nurses Association (CNA) to prospective purchaser Blue Mountain Capital Management. The Daughters of Charity Health Systems (DCHS) own the two hospitals and four more in other parts of the state.
County follows city: Raises minimum wage to $15
Following its approval of a minimum wage increase in unincorporated areas to $15 by 2020, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to increase the “living wage” for contract workers on county jobs to $13.25 by 2016.
