The Children’s Center of the Antelope Valley and the Lancaster Museum of Art and History (MOAH) have incorporated the museumwide show BLOOM 2013 into this month’s Young Artist Workshop. Students of this free workshop learned about composition and color while arranging a collage bouquet from images of flowers and other sources of natural beauty.

Inner City Youth Orchestra sets concert
The Inner City Youth Orchestra of Los Angeles will present “A Season Ending Concert,” featuring such compositions as “The Big Country” by Jerome Moross, “Procession of the Nobles” by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov and “Symphony No. 5” by Ludwig Van Beethoven. An added portion of the concert will be a “A Tribute to Michael Jackson,” featuring three of his hits: “Don’t Stop ’til You Get Enough,” “Man in the Mirror” and “Billie Jean.”
Dunbar Hotel reopens—again—after a $30-million renovation
The famous Dunbar Hotel at 42nd Street and Central Avenue reopened Wednesday, aiming to recapture the grandeur of 70 years ago when it was a destination point for Black Los Angeles. The old hotel, which was the only first-class facility in town that accepted African Americans, has undergone a $30-milllion renovation to emerge as Dunbar Village, an 83-unit mixed-use development for seniors and low-income residents. Rent will range from $437 to $875 per month.

Every year hundreds of people in Los Angeles County become victims of murder and many of their cases go unsolved. This year San Pedro-based Justice for Murdered Children and Malibu-based Justice for Homicide Victims have joined with Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca to do something about it.
