Disney has been in families’ lives for generations, giving smiles, laughter, joy, and life lessons, and creating a safe place for viewers to express themselves and be human. Disney, over the decades, played a pivotal role in helping kids develop and find a sense of purpose within this world. Disney wants to commemorate and honor their journey with us by inviting us to their birthday celebration.

Starting May 16, Disney is celebrating 70 years, showcasing Disney history by welcoming new costumes for long-time favorite characters, parades, new shows, new themes, and many more unveilings to the public.

” We honor the past by enhancing the present culture and tradition as we look into the future to continue expanding the Disney experience,” David Caranci, Creative Developer for Walt Disney, said about the creative process used for the 70th-anniversary celebration.” We always look backward as we move forward, so the approach with creating themes and visuals was using a combination of everything Walt Disney started with and resources we have today.”

The motto for the anniversary is the celebration of happiness, and the creative team drew inspiration from the movie Inside Out to create their nighttime spectacular, World of Color Happiness. Delight in the emotions coming to life through musical moments from some of your favorite Disney and Pixar movies—including Turning Red, The Incredibles, A Goofy Movie, Tangled, Encanto, and more. In addition to featuring classic Disney songs and other iconic favorites, Boyz II Men lends their legendary R&B vocals in a rendition of “Rainbow Connection,” and FITZ — lead vocalist of Fitz and the Tantrums — debuts a new original song just for “World of Color” titled “Makes Me Wanna Move.”

” Music is a big part of Disney’s legacy, and we wanted to scale our entertainment for the celebration to offer emotional and intimate moments with characters across Disney’s history,” Susana Tubert, head of Disney Live Entertainment, said about what guests can expect during their visit. “Staying in that spirit, we have curated a diverse offering of entertainment and music that will reach different generations’ hearts.” Disney also collaborated with the Jonas Brothers for their theme song, ‘Celebrate Happy.’

The “Paint the Night” parade features innovative floats, vibrant costumes, incredible special effects, unforgettable music, and energetic performances. Plus, Anna and Elsa rejoin the parade on the fan-favorite float inspired by Disney Animation’s “Frozen” for the first time since its initial run.

Disney offers things you and your family can celebrate, from entertainment to food, merch, and an overall great new experience. To learn more about the celebration and to purchase tickets, visit Disneyland.com.
