The Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation (LADF) honored its fourth cohort of Legacy Scholars at Dodger Stadium on Monday. The event included a scholarship ceremony, networking session, stadium tour, and pregame on-field recognition. This year’s 10 Legacy Scholars each received a $10,000 scholarship, along with a custom Dodger jersey, a new Apple MacBook, and a backpack, equipping them with the tools they need for a strong start to their freshman year.

LADF’s newest cohort was welcomed by LADF Chief Executive Officer Nichol Whiteman and past scholarship recipients. Dodgers pitcher Anthony Banda and broadcaster Stephen Nelson will also join the celebration to recognize the scholars’ accomplishments before they embark on their college journeys.

“Only 11 percent of college students receive scholarships, and many of our Legacy Scholars are first-generation students balancing school, work, and family responsibilities,” said Whiteman. “More than just financial support, we’re providing an additional safety net that eliminates barriers and creates lasting impact for these scholars and the future of Los Angeles.”

LADF launched the scholarship during the 2022 All-Star Game in partnership with the Dodgers and MLB. In its inaugural year, the Foundation awarded scholarships to 10 students and committed to supporting up to 75 additional recipients in the years ahead. The scholarship, administered by the California Community Foundation, covers academic expenses at two- or four-year universities across Southern California and provides relief for essential needs like housing, transportation, and food, offering both stability and a sense of recognition.

The 2025 LADF Legacy Scholar recipients are graduating seniors from LADF’s Dodgers Dream Team program and members of the Boys & Girls Club of Metro Los Angeles College Bound and Future Pathways programs. More than 70 percent of current Legacy Scholars are enrolled at public institutions across the state, including CSU and UC campuses, while others attend private universities or community colleges.

Dodgers Dream Team is a comprehensive sports-based youth development program that uses the power of sport to provide critical resources and services to communities experiencing social injustices. LADF collaborates with 17 affiliate partners to deliver sports-based programming and wrap-around services to 15,000 youth across 122 locations, supporting communities and families throughout the city.

Acknowledging the immediate needs of underserved communities in health and education, LADF collaborates with partners, such as the Boys & Girls Club of Metro Los Angeles, to deliver comprehensive services that link youth with vital resources and grant access to necessities, fostering healthier life outcomes. The Club equips middle and high school students with the necessary skills to complete high school and prepare for further education and training through the Future Pathways and College Bound programs.
