The long standing partnership between the USA and Israel has yet again led America into a war in the Middle East, this time with Iran. The United States has now entered the conflict alongside Israel by launching airstrikes on three nuclear sites in Iran. But as Ben Norton suggested in his Geopolitical Economy Report, this confrontation didn’t begin with that move—the U.S. was already deeply involved when Israel initiated its aggressive campaign, with Washington’s full support.
Donald Trump ordered the direct U.S. strikes after backing Israel’s initial attacks, effectively further escalating the conflict into a full-scale regional war. Tehran has already declared it will retaliate against U.S. targets. With over 40,000 American troops stationed across West Asia (the Middle East) and dozens of military bases in striking range, the risk of a broader, more devastating confrontation is high. Monday Morning, Iran fired missiles at an American military base in Qatar. At the time of this article, no casualties were reported.
Majed Al Ansari, Qatar’s foreign affairs spokesman, strongly condemned the strike. “We reassure you that Qatar’s air defenses successfully thwarted the attack and intercepted the Iranian missiles,” the statement said.
Iranian official Ebrahim Zolfaqari warned that the U.S. should expect severe consequences. “Mr. Trump, the gambler, you may start this war, but we will be the ones to end it,” Zolfaqari said in English in a video shared Monday.
Israel and Iran’s attacks on each other started last year during the Gaza-Hamas battle. This sparked protests and support for Palestine in the USA. While things did calm down, at least state-side tensions continued to rise in the Middle East. With news of Iran closing in on building its first nuclear weapon, Israel & friends felt the need to stop them in their tracks.
On Monday, Trump warned other countries not to supply nuclear weapons to Iran in response to the U.S. bombing after a former Russian president suggested the option. “The ‘N-word’ which President Trump uses as a euphenism for nuclear should not be treated so casually,” Trump said in a social media post, referring to nuclear weapons.
Russian President Vladimir Putin hosted Iran’s foreign minister in Moscow, telling him there was no justification for the U.S. bombing of Iran, which he described as “unprovoked aggression,” according to the Kremlin. Putin added that Moscow is making efforts to assist the Iranian people.
