County authorities today identified a 12-year-old boy who as fatally shot in a Compton park.

Deputies found the victim, Rodrigo Martinez Macias, in the park and began first-aid measures. Paramedics from the Compton Fire Department took Rodrigo to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The shooting took place around 4 p.m. Friday in the park located on North Oleander Avenue and West Fig Street, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Authorities said investigators determined that the suspect was a 17-year-old boy based on unspecified evidence from the scene. An arrest warrant was issued, and the suspect was taken into custody in Los Angeles at about 10 a.m. Sunday, the LASD said.

The suspect was booked at a nearby station and transported to a juvenile detention facility.
