The Wellbeing Lab, voted to contract in May of 2021, is a programming effort created to help City of Palmdale residents cope with the day to day difficulties of life such as mental health and homelessness.

Earlier this week it was announced that the Palmdale City Council, at its Wednesday meeting, gave consideration to extending and expanding the contract in order to maintain the Wellbeing Lab.

The City Council is interested in amending the contract and will determine its decision during the council’s standard meeting, at 38300 Sierra Highway in the Council Chambers. According to the Antelope Valley Press, “Staff recommends the council approve the contract to offer a fourth cohort of the Wellbeing Lab Certificate in Applied Positive Psychology Program, as well as double the number of youth summits offered in 2025-2026 from four to eight.”

The Wellbeing lab stemmed from a six-month Certification in Applied Positive Psychology (CAPP) coaching program designed to bring more awareness to the importance of self regulation as community members navigate daily struggles. It was also created to help residents deal with the struggles brought on in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. “The cost for both programs is $300,000; $80,000 for the youth summits and $220,000 for the fourth cohort in the CAPP. The funds are available through the city’s American Rescue Plan Act, according to the staff report. [AVpress]”

The initial cohort consisted of 35 members in September 2021 with programs that centered on workshops for people experiencing homelessness, Welcome Home Ceremony for Vietnam Vets, and programs for youth.
