The City of Compton and Compton Chamber of Commerce are partnering to host the 21st Annual Veterans’ Stand Down at 10 a.m. Sept. 21 at the Compton Housing Authority, 700 N. Bullis Road.
The event will offer veterans and their families a variety of resources and referrals for Veteran benefits, employment, housing, legal, and social service connections.
Being the most comprehensive “Stand Down” event in the greater Los Angeles area, the Compton Veterans Stand Down is coordinated and sponsored by the Compton Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with local Veterans Administration Healthcare Systems, For the Love of Our Veterans, and the City of Compton.
The event’s “Hand Up, not a Hand Out” philosophy is aimed to empower the veterans to overcome their adversities with the help of meaningful supportive services. Several governmental agencies and community organizations will provide our veterans with legal services, employment and housing assistance, counseling, VA and social security benefits, all services to lead them to a stable life.
Expected to be in attendance are Compton Mayor Emma Sharif, Councimember Deidre Duhart (District 1), Councilmember Lillie Darden (District 4), Assemblymember Mike Gipson (65th District), a representative from the office of State Sen. Steven Bradford (35th District), and Dr. Lestean M. Johnson, president of the Compton Chamber of Commerce. There will be representatives from For the Love of Our Veterans as well.
