Although there has been discussion of Cancel Culture and the banning of books, Holman United Methodist Church has created a Saturday School for African American history. The mission of the Saturday School is to pave the path to knowledge, heritage and empowerment for African American youth.
“We recognize the critical importance of preserving and celebrating African American history and culture, and we are committed to fostering a nurturing and enriching environment where students can explore their identity, deepen their cultural awareness, and build a foundation for lifelong learning.” Dr. Josephine Isabel-Jones, program chair.
Three sessions have been held at the church and included various presentations. Presentations featured a judge, college president, aerospace educator, musicians, psychiatrist, science teacher, and a civil rights leader. The Saturday School is open to students from second grade through ninth grade.
The Saturday School will be held at Holman United Methodist Church located at 3320 W. Adams Blvd, Los Angeles, CA. on Sept. 21, Oct. 12, Nov. 9 and Dec. 7.
