Ericka Nicole Malone, writer, and executive producer of “Remember Me: The Mahalia Jackson Story” won the 2023 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Breakthrough Creative (Motion Picture) during the third night of the virtual NAACP Image Awards ceremonies.

Malone, who is president of Ericka Nicole Malone Entertainment created and executive produced “Remember Me: The Mahalia Jackson Story” as a vehicle to tell another side of the iconic gospel singers’ life.  Mallone wanted to bring Jackson’s strength and power  to the forefront in addition to Mahalia’s incredible voice and masterful performances.

“Telling the story of such a legendary woman was a privilege and honor. Mahalia Jackson was a national treasure who played a significant role in the fight for justice during the Civil Rights Movement and a close confidant of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr,” said Ericka.

“She was a hidden figure that was oftentimes called upon for advice and encouragement by Dr King, in addition to being a staunch businesswoman who broke down barriers during her career.”

The film has garnered over 22 award wins and nominations during its film festival run including “Best Narrative Feature Audience Award” at the Pan African Film Festival (PAFF).
