The city is seeking applications from artists interested in painting a mural near the Palmdale Transportation Center. Qualified artists are encouraged to submit materials for this project. Applications will be received and reviewed by the Public Art Program Manager. An Artist Selection Panel will review artist submittals and make recommendations to the Public Art Commission for final approval.

The Waste Minimization theme aims to spread a social message on waste reduction and illegal dumping. The selected artist will paint the new mural during a paint collection and recycling event at the Palmdale Transportation Center on April 29.

The selected design will complement the existing Recycle Your Paint mural. The chosen artist will paint on the southeast corner of the exterior block wall of the Maintenance Yard the weekend of the event. The wall will be power washed, prepped, and primer applied before the event.

Once selected, the artist must submit a color rendering of the proposed mural to scale. The selected artist will receive a $2,500 stipend if selected. The artist must carry insurance coverage for the project, and is responsible for paint and any supplies required for the mural installation. The PaintCare.org organizers will also provide the artist with paint collected during the event.

The application is free and open to all Antelope Valley residents 18 years of age and older. The deadline for submissions is Tuesday, Feb. 28, at 6 p.m.
