The 100 Black Men of Los Angeles is having its 36th Annual Young Black Scholars (YBS) Academic Kickoff and College Fair on Saturday, Sept. 24, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at West Los Angeles College, 9000 Overland Ave., Culver City.

The YBS Program is a comprehensive college preparatory program for African-American and other minority high school students in grades 8 through 12. The program has more than 30 workshops to help scholars and parents prepare for college admissions, selection, and continued success.

Since 1986, YBS has assisted more than 23,000 students to realize their dreams of attending college. The YBS program is 100% free to students.

This Sept. 24 event provides an opportunity for new and returning scholars and parents (or guardians) to learn more about the YBS program. Participants will be given an overview of the 2022-2023 academic year with motivational speakers, alumni, student and parent workshops followed by a College Fair. More than 20 colleges are planning to be in attendance this year.

“This is our first in-person YBS Academic Kickoff and College Fair since 2019.  We are looking forward to a great academic year with the YBS students, as we bring our programs back in-person,” said Kirk Williams, 100 Black Men of Los Angeles president and chairman of the board.
