Calfresh conducts giveaway

Calfresh will kick off Calfresh awareness month on May 4 with a fresh produce giveaway at East Rancho Dominguez Park, 15116 S. Atlantic Ave., Compton, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Calfresh will also host Zumba and yoga classes while offering employment for the summer and hosting toy giveaways for the kids in attendance.

Calfresh uses this campaign not only to bring awareness to their program but to honor community members who helped raise public awareness throughout the year.

“Hunger impacts all aspects of human life from healthcare to education. It’s essential that we increase awareness of CalFresh,” said DPSS Director Antonia Jiménez.

“Families who were barely getting by paycheck-to-paycheck before the pandemic have been hit harder by the COVID-19 crisis. Unfortunately, food insecurity has impacted many L.A. County residents: older adults, working people, students, children, and youth. DPSS is so proud to promote CalFresh because it truly is an effective anti-hunger program.”
