Rep. Karen Bass (CA-37) and L.A. City Councilman Kevin de León are polling first and second, respectively, in the Los Angeles mayoral Race -– but a greater number of voters still are not sure who they’ll vote for in the June 7 primary, a survey released Wednesday by Loyola Marymount University (LMU) found.
The survey, conducted by LMU’s Thomas and Dorothy Leavey Center for the Study of Los Angeles, surveyed registered voters by phone, online and in person in English, Spanish, Mandarin and Korean from Jan. 4 to Feb. 10.
Bass and de León were the only candidates to receive support in the double digits, with 16.1 percent of surveyed registered voters saying they would vote for Bass and 12.1 percent saying they would vote for de León.
But more than 41 percent of voters said they would either choose someone else than the candidates included in the survey, or didn’t yet know who they would vote for in the primary.
“With more than three months to go before the election, and such a large swath of voters who haven’t yet decided which candidate to support, there is a lot of opportunity (for) the other candidates to change the outcome,’’ said center director Fernando Guerra.
Councilman Joe Buscaino received 7.7 percent support; City Attorney Mike Feuer received 7.3 percent; real estate developer Rick Caruso received 6 percent; former Metro board member and realtor Mel Wilson received 4 percent; and entrepreneur Ramit Varma received 2.3 percent.
