Project nears completion

The Nov. 18 Crenshaw/LAX Construction Update virtual meeting included Airport Metro Connector and other Metro project information. Additionally, the Community Education team presented the current programming available to schools, community centers, recreation centers and libraries along the Crenshaw/LAX Line. The project has reached over 99 percent completion and the line should open by mid-2022.

As part of the Crenshaw/LAX Transit Project, Metro’s contractor, Walsh-Shea Corridor Constructors (WSCC) will continue working on civil improvements on Crenshaw Blvd through Jan. 1, 2022 on both the northbound and southbound lanes of  Crenshaw between Exposition Blvd. and 71st Street.

Expect intermittent closures of lanes and sidewalks.

Additionally, as part of Metro’s Crenshaw/LAX Transit Project, Walsh-Shea Corridor Constructors (WSCC) will continue working on live train testing of train control and communication systems through Jan. 1, 2022 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. Monday through Sunday, excluding holidays, weather permitting, in the South LA and Inglewood areas along the line.

Residents can expect intermittent delays at the railroad crossings periodically throughout the day. Safety officials will assist with traffic management at the intersection/railroad crossings as the train passes. Trains will be traveling at variable speeds. Pedestrians and drivers are urged to obey all warning signs and traffic signals, never walk on or jaywalk across tracks and watch for trains from both directions.

The civil work on the line continues in segments and phases and includes curb and gutter reconstruction, ADA ramps, landscaping, street lighting, traffic signals, sidewalk reconstruction, driveways and median improvements.
