At their recent virtual convention, the League of Women Voters of California (LWVC) members elected Cynthia Heard as one of their newest board directors for a two-year term.
“We are thrilled to have Cynthia joining our Board,” said Stephanie Doute, executive director of the League of Women Voters of California. “Never in our lifetimes has it been more important that we all come together to defend our democracy and empower voters. Cynthia’s vision and leadership will be invaluable to continuing the advancement of the League’s mission to defend democracy. She has an accomplished career that includes bipartisan legislative advocacy, which will also advance the other priorities of the LWVC, such as criminal legal system reform, racial justice, and housing/ homelessness.”
Heard’s career has been committed to serving in the field of child welfare. She received her B.A. in Psychology from USC and pursued her M.A. from Howard University. Heard continues to work diligently to facilitate social changes within at-risk communities throughout Los Angeles County and the U.S.
“It is an honor to join this amazing organization and a phenomenal group of talented and dedicated women, in supporting our democracy,” said Heard. “I have long admired the League of Women Voters and their advocacy in building a brighter future for America. I look forward to helping strengthen its mission-driven activities in the future.”
Over the past 24 years, Heard has been an intricate partner in the field of social services. As a strong Child Welfare supporter and executive leader, Heard worked hand in hand with Inter-Agency Council on Child Abuse and Neglect to create a nationally acclaimed community and educational “Models” that help create systemic change for at-risk youth and families across the country. In 2013, Cynthia joined the YWCA of Greater Los Angeles as the vice president of communications and advocacy. In 2014, she was promoted to Vice President of business development and communications.
