16 and up now eligible for COVID-19 vaccines in Los Angeles County


With the supply of vaccines expected to significantly increase in the coming weeks, the state is expanding vaccine eligibility to more Californians. Starting today, April 15, individuals 16 and older are eligible to make an appointment to be vaccinated.

Every county in California is assigned to a tier based on its positivity rate, adjusted case rate, and health equity metric.

Counties must remain in a tier for at least three weeks before moving to a less restrictive tier. Counties must meet the next tier’s criteria for two consecutive weeks to move to a less restrictive tier.

If a county’s metrics worsen for two consecutive weeks, it will be assigned a more restrictive tier.

As of April 13, only one of California’s 21counties was in the Purple (widespread) tier; 21 counties were in the Red (substantial) Tier; 33 counties in Orange (moderate) Tier; and only three counties were in the Yellow (minimal) Tier.
