9/11 Unity Walk. September 8.

The Unity Walk is an interfaith, cross cultural commemoration of the September 11 attacks. This year’s walk will take place on Embassy Row in Washington D.C. The Unity Walk offers participants the opportunity to learn about different faiths and cultures at open houses for churches, synagogues, temples, gurdwaras, and mosques; hear from renowned speakers including Rev. Mpho Tutu and Arun Gandhi; enjoy diverse cuisines; and participate in a service project hosted by Unity Walk’s Interfaith Youth Action Group. The event is free and open to all.

United Service Organization (USO) 9/11 Remembrance Walk. September 11.

The USO’s 9/11 Remembrance Walk (5K) is an event to honor the memory of those lost on that tragic day and to raise funds for the USO’s efforts to support those who protect Americam freedom every day. The walk will be held at Hudson River Park, Pier 46, Charles and West streets, New York. To register, or for more info email

Pentagon Memorial. Septemer 11.

The memorial commemorates the 184 lives lost in the Pentagon and on American Airlines Flight 77 during the terrorist attacks. The Pentagon Memorial is free and open to the public 24 hours a day. Special services will be held for the families of the victims of 9/11 at the Memorial on September 11, 2013.

The memorial encompasses 1.93 acres on the western side of the Pentagon Building, adjacent to Route 27 including a park and gateway that spans approximately two acres with 184 memorial units, each dedicated to an individual victim. The memorial units are benches that are each engraved at the end with the individual’s name, hovering above a pool of water that glows with light at night.

The National September 11 Memorial & Museum will hold a private ceremony for the families of the victims of 9/11. The Memorial is closed to the public on this day.
