LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Children’s Hospital Los Angeles was ranked fifth in a list of the nation’s best children’s hospitals released by U.S. News & World Report, the second consecutive year it was ranked fifth.
A hospital received two points if it ranked among the highest 5 percent in a specialty and one point if it was among the highest 6 to 10 percent.
Children’s Hospital Los Angeles received eight points and was ranked in the top 10 percent in six categories.
Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia was first with 20 points, ranking in the top 10 percent in 10 categories.
Children’s Hospital Los Angeles was the only California hospital ranked in the top 10.
The rankings are determined by clinical and operational data in 10 pediatric medical specialties and recommendations from pediatric specialists on hospitals they consider the best for children with challenging medical conditions.
Children’s Hospital Los Angeles was ranked fourth in both treating cancer and orthopedics, fifth in diabetes and endocrinology, seventh for cardiology and heart surgery, and eighth both in gastroenterology and gastrointestinal surgery and neonatology.
