Nicki Minaj on Idol rumors

If “American Idol” producers really are planning to toss aside all of the show’s judges, as rumors have suggested, they only have three left to go.

On Thursday night, Randy Jackson confirmed that he’s departing the long-running reality competition, meaning the show no longer has any of its original judges.

The three that are left – Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban — might not be around for much longer, either. There have already been reports that “Idol” thought about replacing Carey with former judge Jennifer Lopez, and Minaj reportedly hasn’t been the biggest hit with viewers, either.

And yet, despite her bickering with Carey, Minaj says she’s happy right where she is.

Wearing his E! News hat, Ryan Seacrest asked Minaj before Thursday’s show (and before Jackson’s announcement) if she wants to return next year. For Minaj, “that’s a million dollar question.”

“I say this all the time, but I want people to know it’s genuinely from my heart. I love the people on ‘Idol,’” the rapper/singer/actress said. “I genuinely do. If I had to do this all over again, I would have done ‘Idol.’ Because it’s fun, it’s laughs.”

“Fun” and “laughter” definitely aren’t two words that would be associated with Minaj’s tenure on the show, given the numerous headlines about her disagreements with Carey in particular. But Minaj said viewers haven’t heard the full story.

“It’s kind of sad that what people read all the time is only when something is negative,” she told Seacrest. “But they don’t realize that we built a family. I feel happy here and I have to thank them for giving me this chance. They could have picked anyone in the world. And they picked me. So that’s all I’ll say about that.”
