The Drew League is in full swing
The Drew League has been around for 40 years, since Alvin Willis established the summer league at Drew Middle School on the corner of Firestone and Compton Ave. The goal of the league was to bring back some of the school’s alumni for basketball games.
Years later, under the guidance of Dino Smiley, the Drew League has featured the likes of Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and several other NBA All-Stars.
Cancer scare for Lakers great Michael Cooper
Former Los Angeles Lakers great Michael Cooper has been diagnosed with tougue cancer. Cooper, head coach of the Atlanta Dream of the WNBA, made the announcement on Monday, one day after coaching the East team to a 125-124 win in the 2014 WNBA All-Star Game.

As college graduates move into their careers, and away from university campuses, people tend to lose touch with each other. But the friendly competition from events such as the Frat Games brings the Black fraternities and sororities back together.

Dorsey High School’s Alexander Madueke has many great attributes, but two in particular can take him a long way. He is intelligent, and he has a really strong right arm. He has a 3.5 grade point average, and from right field on the baseball field, he can throw base runners out at home plate. He can hit really well, too.

Student Athlete of the Week
Joshua Willard is creating a name for himself in the sport of skateboarding, and he is only 11 years old. He is following in the footsteps of Nyjah Huston, who made his first X Games appearance at that same age. Willard, like Huston, can be considered a child prodigy because his skills are so great for somebody so young.
