The Lancaster Chamber of Commerce is looking for sponsors and parade entries for its Antelope Valley Fair Parade scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Aug. 20. The parade on The BLVD serves as the unofficial start of the Antelope Valley Fair and Alfalfa Festival Aug. 19-28.

The Friends of the Palmdale Library will conduct its next monthly meeting at 4 p.m. Aug. 3 at the Chimbole Cultural Center, 38350 Sierra Hwy. The group meets on the first Wednesday of each month and, since 1977, has provided assistance which cannot be met by the city budget. They support programs to create enthusiasm for the library and to foster enrichment of the community.
Help for disabled homeowners
The city of Lancaster is offering grants for disabled residents, including veterans, for improvements to single-family and mobile home properties.
County leads in ICE arrests; 112 foreign nationals detained
A Mexican national convicted of the attempted murder of a peace officer was among 112 foreign nationals arrested in the Los Angeles area during a federal operation targeting “at-large criminal aliens,” officials said.
The four-day operation, which ended July 20, was conducted by personnel from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
