Late last year, “The New York Times” and “The Washington Post” criticized the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) for its call for a moratorium on charter schools. Editorial writers at The Post even got all clever with their Oct. 11 headline, “The NAACP opposes charter schools. Maybe it should do its homework.”

Black America’s ‘savior complex’ causes many to question Obama’s impact
Savior: a person who saves someone or something (especially a country or cause) from danger, or who is often regarded with the veneration of a religious figure.
In 2008, millions of African Americans converged to vote for a man who they believed would be a game changer. The result of that year’s presidential election was viewed by many as the realization of a prophecy delivered in 1963 by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. The election was, and will always be, the most profound moment in Black history.
Commentary: It’s time for the Democratic Party to wake up
Everyone appears to have figured out that a dangerous, stupid fascist with no knowledge of how the federal government works is now the President of the United States. Everyone, that is, accept members of the Democratic Party, now serving in the 115th Congress.
You have to wonder how many dangerously incompetent, racist and blindly ideological decisions the executive branch has to make before Democratic in the United States Congress, who are supposedly in the opposition party, wake up. What is the strategy? What is the plan? Trump’s careless staff couldn’t even spell the name of the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom correctly on a press release. What makes anyone think they’ll be more detailed on other initiatives they plan such as an “investigation of voting fraud” and selected members of the U.S. Supreme Court?
The night “Yes, we can!” became “Yes, we did!”
When President nominee Barack Obama won the election back in November 2008, the day was filled with hope as thousands of people from all walks of life clamored and screamed, “Yes, we can, yes, we can!” Obama had taken his supporters on a historical account of the experiences in the life of 106-year-old Ann Nixon Cooper in his acceptance speech. Before he finished, he had invited the nation on a new journey to correct the wrongs and change things for the better.
The tears
Where has the time gone? Eight years have gone by much too soon. As the days pass, the more I find myself filled with regret that time moved so fast.
Civil Rights at risk under Sessions
Confirmation hearings for Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions, named by Donald Trump to be attorney general of the United States, began on Jan. 10, before Trump is scheduled to be inaugurated. The rush and insistence on only two days of hearings reflect Republican efforts to cram the nomination through before Americans understand what is at stake.
Consumers get back over $17 million, thanks to CFPB
Millions of consumers who were duped into paying fees for their own credit scores will soon receive more than $17.6 million, thanks to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Affected consumers can expect to receive notification letters in the mail.
TransUnion and Equifax, two of the nation’s largest credit reporting agencies, sold credit scores, credit reports and credit monitoring services to consumers even though the “credit scores” sold were not typically used by lenders to make credit decisions. As a result, what consumers paid to these two firms was of questionable value.
Historians rank President Obama’s Legacy
Supporters and critics alike may eventually come to view President Barack Obama’s two-term White House tenure the same way.
His determination for change never appeared to cause him to stumble on his goals, be it Obamacare or commuting the sentences of so many who were imprisoned for so long — primarily because of antiquated laws that punished mostly low-level minority drug offenders.
Enough is enough: a call for the economic boycott of North Carolina
In recent years, since extremists took over the GOP in North Carolina, my home state has gained a worldwide reputation for intolerance and bigoted narrow-mindedness. Controlling all three branches of state government since 2012, they have remade the Old North State in an image that would be unrecognizable to Abraham Lincoln or to the Republicans and Democrats who stood together in America to resist the Dixiecrats and pass the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act.
With final press briefing of 2016, President Obama reflects on his record
President Barack Obama used his last press conference of the year to reflect on the accomplishments of his administration over the past eight years.
