Local organizations team up to meet Obamacare deadline

Eight different organizations have come together to help South L.A. residents sign up for health insurance through the Covered California insurance exchange as well as Medi-Cal, county programs and others. The churches, community health centers, labor unions, and community-based organizations will hold a health fair and health insurance enrollment event on the campus of the historic First A.M.E. Church of Los Angeles on Saturday, March 29 at 2270 S. Harvard Blvd., near Adams and Western.

St. John’s Well Child & Family Center opens new health campus in South L.A.

On the fourth anniversary of President Barack Obama’s signing of the Affordable Care Act, St. John’s celebrated the grand opening of the S. Mark Taper Foundation Health and Wellness Campus, which includes the Frayser Health Center for children and mothers, and the S. Mark Taper Foundation Health and Wellness Center for adults. The campus, located on West 58th Street between Vermont Avenue and Hoover Street, will provide additional services for more than 30,000 patients in some of South Los Angeles’ poorest communities.

Lancaster City Councilman Ron Smith to accompany Antonovich to China

Lancaster City Councilman Ron Smith will be joining Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich for a business delegation trip to China from April 5-13. The trip is meant to strengthen business ties between Chinese companies and Los Angeles County, with the plan of courting new businesses to open up U.S. locations or relocate to the Antelope Valley. Gaining additional investments will benefit the local economy and increase employment opportunities throughout the county, including in the Antelope Valley.
