Celebrating the stars and stripes

From Acton to Rosamond, a number of popular Independence Day events will take place next week in the Antelope Valley. The region has always hosted traditional activities in celebration of our nation’s founding, and this year will be no different, as barbecues will blaze, bands will blare, fireworks will fascinate and parades will promenade down local streets.

LAX shows off its bright, shiny Tom Bradley International Terminal

Officials at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) last week were practically giddy in showing off the new Tom Bradley International Terminal (TBIT), part of $4.1 billion capital improvement project at the aging airport. Once the ultimate destination point during the early jet age, LAX has been passed over by travelers (and airlines) of late for more modern airports west of the Rockies such as San Francisco International, Seattle-Tacoma and the ultra-modern Denver International. LAX has not witnessed major improvement since the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics when the first Tom Bradley Terminal opened.

A big day for the man of the house

Though Father’s Day falls on the third Sunday in June, “dear ol’ dad” nonetheless deserves a special day off. The “honey-do” and “daddy-fix” lists can wait. On Sunday, fathers, stepfathers, fathers-in-law, grandfathers and even great-grandfathers nationwide traditionally put their feet up and enjoy the warmth of family.
