The Antelope Valley Swap Meet, 5555 Pearblossom Highway, Palmdale, is offering free admission this month to anyone who brings along a new or slightly used winter clothing item to donate to South Antelope Valley Emergency Services (SAVES).
Winter clothing items may include jackets, top coats, parkas, sweaters, sweatshirts, hats, scarves and gloves. Only new socks and new long underwear will be accepted. Collection bins will be located at all entrances throughout the swap meet.
“As the weather has gotten colder, we’re seeing an increase in the need for winter clothing by our clients,” said Patricia Morales, SAVES coordinator. “Your donations will help someone in need of winter clothing, plus you’ll get into the swap meet for free.”
The Antelope Valley Swap Meet is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
SAVES was begun in 1983 to offer assistance to individuals and families who are experiencing a temporary emergency situation. Last year, SAVES provided meals to 81,853 families and nourishment to 52,567 seniors. During the holiday season last year, the organization provided 300 Thanksgiving baskets, 350 holiday baskets and 160 toy baskets.
