Wins & Lessons Foundation, in partnership with the Compton Department of Recreation, among other local organizations, will host the 2nd Annual Back to School Block Party & Family Fun Day on Sunday, August 9, 2026, from 12 PM to 4 at Sibrie Park, 1300 W El Segundo Blvd, Compton.
“This event is about more than giving away backpacks,” said organizers from Wins & Lessons Foundation. “This is about what becomes possible when the community decides to move together. We have nonprofits, businesses, schools, civic leaders, service providers, food vendors, and community members all stepping forward with one shared goal: to make sure our youth and families feel supported, prepared, and seen.”
The community event is completely free, and organizers are excited to serve over 2,000 youth and families, with broader community attendance anticipated to reach up to 5,000 people, for an afternoon centered on school readiness, family support, health equity, youth safety, recreation, community resources, and true community collaboration.
The 2nd Annual Back to School Block Party & Family Fun Day is centered on giving families backpacks, school supplies, school uniforms, shoes, clothing, household items, diapers and wipes, hygiene resources, food, water, youth activities, recreation, entertainment, community resource tables, and much more. Registration is required to attend.
The event 2nd Annual Back to School Block Party & Family Fun Day is being intentionally framed as a Community Health Equity & School-Readiness Fair, connecting families to immediate support and longer-term resources. The event will address key social and economic determinants of health, including access to basic needs, food security, mental wellness, school readiness, family stability, youth mentorship, violence prevention, and positive recreation.
Since 2025, Wins & Lessons Foundation has expanded its impact across Compton and surrounding communities, including:
• 5,000+ families served with clothing, household items, and essential resources
• 4,000+ toys distributed to children and families
• 4,000+ kids and adults provided with meals
• 750+ backpacks distributed to students
• 2,000+ youth and adults reached with mental health education, awareness, and
resources
• 150+ youth mentored through programs and community initiatives
• 30 youth successfully graduated from mentorship and development programs
“What makes this event different is the level of collaboration,” said Wins & Lessons Foundation leadership. “This is not one organization trying to do everything alone. This is government, schools, nonprofits, small businesses, service organizations, and community leaders working together to serve families in a real and tangible way. That is the story. That is the impact. That is Compton.”
