After months of speculation and courtroom deliberations, Harlem-born rapper A$AP Rocky was found not guilty of two felony counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm. The verdict, delivered by a Los Angeles jury on Feb. 18, 2025, brings an end to a case that had captivated fans and legal analysts alike.

The charges stemmed from an alleged 2021 incident in which Terell Ephron—better known as A$AP Relli, a former friend and member of the A$AP Mob—claimed Rocky fired a handgun at him during a heated dispute. Throughout the trial, Rocky maintained his innocence, with his legal team arguing that the weapon in question was a prop gun and that he acted in self-defense.

From the start, the case garnered national attention, not just because of A$AP Rocky’s celebrity status, but also due to the deep personal connections at its core. What was once a brotherhood within the A$AP Mob fractured into legal warfare, playing out in real time before a judge and jury.

A$AP Mob, a collective formed in 2006, consists of New York creatives who share the A$AP moniker. Other group members include but are not limited to, rapper A$AP Ferg and the late A$AP Yams, who died at 26 in 2015. The collective has been instrumental in shaping New York’s modern hip-hop scene, blending high fashion with street culture.
One of the most emotional moments of the trial came when Rocky leaped over a courtroom bench to embrace his longtime partner, Rihanna, following the not guilty verdict. Rihanna, who had been present throughout the proceedings with their two young sons, was visibly emotional, later taking to social media to express her gratitude for what she described as divine intervention.

The trial had placed a cloud over A$AP Rocky’s career and personal life. Now, with this legal battle behind him, he is free to refocus on his music, fashion endeavors, and business ventures.

Reports suggest that Rocky’s lawyer, J. Anthony Bryan, is leading a consortium looking to acquire a stake in the English football club Tranmere Rovers. If successful, this move would mark an ambitious shift in Rocky’s portfolio, showing his interest in expanding beyond music into sports ownership.

On a personal level, the acquittal has also sparked rumors about what’s next for him and Rihanna. Some speculate that a wedding may be on the horizon, especially given how publicly Rihanna stood by his side during the trial.

Meanwhile, A$AP Relli broke his silence on Instagram, posting a series of cryptic stories. “Gossiping is a form of entertainment for people who have no meaningful goals or purpose in life,” he wrote. “Our existence doesn’t add any value in my life,” Relli added alongside a praying emoji.
