The fans of TV and film icon John Amos are invited to a heartfelt Celebration of Life to honor his extraordinary legacy and contributions to the entertainment industry. The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, at the Barbara Morrison Performing Arts Theater, 4305 Degnan Blvd., in Leimert Park.

The event is sponsored by his son, KC Amos, and his close family. The eulogy will be given by Pastor Dr. Robert Sausedo, President and CEO of Community Build. The event is spearheaded by community activist Najee Ali and other community leaders in conjunction with John Amos’ son, KC Amos.

Najee Ali shares, “For many young African-American boys who grew up as I did, John Amos was the father figure that we didn’t have. His role on “Good Times” portrayed him as a loving husband and father, who was a provider and protector for his family. The greatest honor of my life was meeting him in Leimert Park and telling him that I watched him on Good Times every week and wished I had grown up with a father like him.”

KC Amos shares, “Thank you to the city of L.A., the Barbara Morrison Theater, Najee Ali, and the community for uniting with me to celebrate my father’s life. We’re honoring my father, John Amos, in L.A. with those he loved and especially with the community that he cherished and cared about. I’m carrying out my father’s wishes, and there are more details coming soon as to the real truth.”

John Amos, an Emmy-nominated actor, and trailblazer in Hollywood, is best known for his unforgettable roles as James Evans Sr. in the groundbreaking sitcom “Good Times” and as Kunta Kinte in the award-winning miniseries “Roots”, which cemented his place in history as a dynamic force for social change through storytelling. Amos is also remembered for his role as weatherman Gordy Howard on “The Mary Tyler Moore Show.” His career spanned decades, with notable performances in films such as “Coming to America” and TV series like “The West Wing,” earning him a reputation as a consummate professional and a beloved figure in entertainment.

This celebration will include tributes from close family, friends, and the community, highlighting the profound impact of John Amos’s life and career on the lives of many. Attendees will have an opportunity to reflect on his enduring legacy as a dedicated father, friend, and cultural icon who championed meaningful representation in television and film.

The event is open to the public, with seating available on a first-come, first-served basis.
