Santa Ana Police and SWAT responded

An armed man with a gun taped to his hand, paced around a Santa Ana strip mall before a crowd of people finally surrendered to police early Wednesday morning, bringing an 11-hour standoff to an end.

The suspect dropped his gun and was taken into custody just before 3 a.m. Wednesday, KABC 7 reported.

The standoff prompted the evacuations of stores at the mall as the suspect held police at bay for hours.

Orange County deputies tried to stop the suspect at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday and the suspect got out of his car outside the Hobby Lobby store in the 1900 block of 17th Street.

The Santa Ana Police Department crisis negotiation and SWAT teams responded to the scene and attempted to convince the suspect to surrender, to no avail. They worked with the Orange County Sheriff's Department in an effort to resolve the standoff, SAPD spokeswoman Natalie Garcia told City News Service.

No one was injured during the standoff, KABC reported.
