New amenities in Phase 2

Palmdale Mayor Laura Bettencourt, city council members, Assemblyman Juan Carillo (39th District) and a number of local officials are expected to gather on Friday, June 9, for the groundbreaking of Phase 2 of Sam Yellen Park, 5100 E. Avenue S, in Palmdale.

Phase 2 of the park will build out the remaining 12 of the 25 acres of land originally donated to the City of Palmdale in 2001 by the Yellen family. Future amenities will include a community room with restrooms, futsal courts, unique fitness stations, illuminated pedestrian path and dog park.

There will be an expanded playground area designed for children ages 2 to 5 years old, additional restrooms and a new parking lot accessible from Hillcrest Drive. Additional landscape enhancements, including turf and trees, will also be added to Phase I areas of Yellen Park.

Yellen Park Phase I opened June 1, 2017. The original 12.5 acres currently includes Palmdale’s first dog park, an adventure playground with a zipline, covered picnic tables, an open play field area with ball field lighting, fitness stations, parking and restrooms.
