First United Methodist of Compton (FUMCC), which has served Compton for 155 years, at 1025 S. Long Beach Blvd., will host a special anniversary service under the theme “Jesus is Alive: Walk With Him” taken from Luke 24:13-35. The service will begin at 10 a.m. on April 23.

The guest speaker will be Pastor Stephanie Hoxey. Hoxey currently serves as the assistant pastor to Pastors Calvin and Apostle Veronica Moore of the Word of Fire Tabernacle Church. As a  child, Hoxey attended FUMCC. She is the daughter of the late Compton City Councilman Maxcy Filer and wife, Blondell Filer. Both were active in the Compton NAACP and in the forefront of the local civil rights movement.

FUMCC is one of the oldest churches in all of Southern California. The current Pastor, Rev. Dr. Arnetha Inge, is encouraging the community to attend. There will be light refreshments served after the Worship Service. For more details call the church at (310) 639-0775.
